So, since I'm a left handed gal in cast since Sept 24, I haven't been posting much on here. I hope to get this waterproof cast off on Nov 10 if the X rays look good. Then I'll get a brace and start working on the wrist rehab. (been working the thumb already)
Needless to say, eating has been a challenge - I can't cook with just my non dominant hand, I can hardly get food INTO my mouth with my right hand...and what else? I bought a new dishwasher and it's sat in my kitchen floor for an entire week now. (If anyone out there is trying to think of a job that is needed, this might be a great idea...)
But, tonight Jack, Isaac, I am going to Ger and Cassie's house. They made chili. Jess is bringing grilled cheese sandwiches. How nice is that? I'm looking forward to it.
Don't you love the shirts in the photo? Kim saw them and just had to get them for Ger and Cassie. The SASS is STRONG with them, for sure! I can't wait to see them in these matching shirts.

Paleo Chicken Pepper Paprikash has the power of smoked paprika.
Chicken Paprikash is a traditional Hungarian dish that uses Paprika as a main ingredient in the cooking of chicken thighs until extremely tender and flavorful. I took the old family recipe and changed it up, using Paleo ingredients and Smoked Paprika and everything compliments the other ingredients to the point of perfection.
Smoked paprika has a deeper color and a more intense flavor than normal paprika. it's filled with vitamin C and carotenoids and we all know the long list of benefits to our health that come with that, right?
So, try this easy and efficient recipe for your health and strength in your meal prep plan this week. Chicken thighs are also economical, even when they're organic.

Berry Blend Fig JouleFuel Smoothie is SO good for you!
Figs. Have you read about the nutritional powerhouse that figs provide? Did you know that you can substitute figs in any recipe that has dates 1:1? The more figs are researched, the more health benefits are found and since they've been around for over 5,000 years, I think it's time you gave them some attention.
People who are new to figs sometimes find the fresh ones...weird. All those different textures and the seeds and sometimes just the look of them stop some people in their tracks.
Even the dried figs have a consistency that some find hard to love.
What's the answer to this? Throw them in the Vitamix and sweeten up a JouleFuel smoothie. It's seriously good stuff! click here for the recipe: Berry Blend JouleFuel Smoothie

Bacon Wrapped Corn on the Cob - Oven Version
We were all craving corn and hadn't had any yet this season. I wanted to find the healthiest corn possible in this area; not an easy task, but farmer's markets and the Wild Ramp would be the best bets. Since we try to eat Paleo most of the time, and healthy all the time, I wanted this corn to be as special as I could make it so, of course, I wrapped it in bacon. Lots of bacon. Because that stuff will shrink.
Everyone wanted more corn than I had. That's a good sign of a great recipe, right? Hopefully this will convince you to make this easy recipe. The photo on the recipe shows them cooked and they are awesomely beautiful.
Seriously. Click here for the recipe: READ MORE

Crock Pot Round Steak and Quinoa fuels you up for success
This amazing round steak recipe gives you the most delicious and tender way to easily prepare round steak. It can be made strict Paleo if you leave out the quinoa.
But, let's talk about quinoa. It's not a grain. It's a seed, technically, from the goosefoot plant.
So, it is gluten-free and better for you than grains. Most people process quinoa effectively. It's not like we eat it often, but now and then we enjoy it. There's only a cup of red quinoa in this crock pot recipe and it's a wonderful addition to your paleo diet now and then unless you are a STRICT Paleo person.
I like to load my crock pot the night before and place the insert into the fridge.
The next morning, I'll see the post-it note on the coffee pot that reminds me to take it out of the fridge and plug it in and set it. It is the perfect way to have a great meal ready when I get home from work, and no matter how stressful the day might try to be, I know I'm going to fuel up my people with a healthy dinner.

Spaghetti Squash Baby Kale Chicken Marinara - yes, I'm working at the airport.
I'm sitting in the Oakland airport waiting to fly home and catching up on recipe posts. We've had such a great time and got to spend a lot of time with Ger! It was great that Cassie was here at the same time, too! The San Francisco Fire won their match against the LA Reign and move on to the playoffs on Sept 16. Ger and the Fire will play the Phoenix Rise again in Anaheim.
We especially enjoyed our dinner last night at the Walnut Creek Yacht Club. It's nowhere near water but the food was so perfect that it didn't matter at all. I had tender sea bass, Jack and Ger had the halibut and roasted beets, and Isaac had lobster mac n cheese. All of this was after oysters on the half-shell. We finished up with one creme brûlée for the 4 of us to share.
Now, it's time to get back to business, right? This new Spaghetti Squash Baby Kale Chicken Marinara is a perfect blend of clean ingredients that will fuel you up for all your many successes. For the recipe, CLICK HERE.

Banana Pecan Breakfast Bars are grain-free Paleo deliciousness.
I am sitting here at the Treehouse in Sunol and I finally have time to blog this recipe. It's so beautiful here. I'm in the Redwood cabin section of the house, all cozy, and the views out all the windows are relaxing and green. The weather is perfect. If you even get a chance to be out this way, this place is a great rental. Richard seems to have thought of everything you could possibly need for a perfect stay.
AND the San Francisco Fire won their match yesterday against the LA Reign. We love watching our team live and yesterday was no exception! The Fire brought the win with finesse and strength and the crowd was #FiredUp!
What else is great? Ger and Cassie will be texting soon about when they can get together with me, Isaac, and Jack. Who knows what we'll do today? We've ridden the bart to a Giants game, eaten sushi, eaten a fabulous breakfast at Denica's (video on Instagram @feedinggersasser), checked out the Firehaus, and had a sleepover.
Anyway, enjoy your family. Make these bars. Have an adventure. Find the recipe HERE.

This Paleo Chunky Summer Slaw is cold and crunchy
Do you get too busy with all the things you need to do that you let meal prep and healthy meal choices fall by the wayside? Then, do you notice that your energy levels or your patience are dropping off?
I'm a teacher. This time of year is when my school district has been in session a couple of weeks and I am already feeling the stress of the "list" getting longer and longer. I didn't eat great this week. I certainly didn't get to Crossfit Countdown enough. It's Saturday and I'm about to go back to ONE of my classrooms and work.
I'm also going to prep better for the upcoming week and stop beating myself up about it all. This Chunky Summer Slaw is one of the easy things I can do this weekend. You should try it. Find the recipe here

Does Roasted Sriracha Lime Zucchini sound good?
Last night was our first Tuesday night Family Dinner with Ger gone. (He's in his second season with the San Francisco Fire and is training hard with his incredible team.) We had Roasted Lemon Shrimp with Sweet Potatoes and a zucchini/quinoa/cabbage/bonebroth skillet recipe that I haven't posted yet. I did notice that I didn't have the roasted zucchini recipe with sriracha lime sea salt SO I putting that one up now. Salttraders.com is where I get all my favorite sea salt and this one has been added to our favorites list. Salt Traders does not sponsor me - I just love the deep and wonderful flavors their smoked sea salt brings to great food.
I hope you try this Sriracha Lime Zucchini dish. Roasting only takes a few minutes. Here's the recipe:

You can soak goji berries in water before you put them in salads like Chicken Goji Pear Salad
Goji berries can seem hard and not worth eating to some people but they are such an antioxidant-filled superfood that you should work on finding ways to put them into your meal plans. They are dried and chewy and a little sweet with an herb aftertaste.
You could make up a batch of Goji Berry Breakfast Bars and bag them up as part of your Crossfit diet meal plan when you do a prep day. They are good for breakfast or a snack on the go.

Cooking radishes is a great new trend
I like cooked radishes much better than thrown in a salad. Once I started throwing them into stir-fry or just sautéing them in butter I kept reading about how trendy this was. Pumpkin Kombucha
Pumpkin Kombucha
I love making kombucha. If you don’t make your own yet, please read my post here for tips to get started: Kombucha – Make It Yourself. If you are local, let me know if you want a scoby to start with. I have a long family-tree.
I’m always making different flavor combinations when I bottle kombucha. I have many favorites but still longed for a pumpkin pie spice flavor. I’ve been developing this and I just love it! If you love pumpkin, you will, too. I thought about waiting until fall to post this recipe, but I just couldn’t wait. Pumpkin should not only be celebrated in one season! (It's fast becoming a family favorite)
So, when your next gallon of kombucha is ready to be bottled you could try it this way:
I’d already made a batch of tea with 7 organic black tea bags and 1 cup of sugar and let it cool.
With clean hands, I carefully took out the scoby and laid him aside on a clean plate. (He looks good)
I gave the kombucha a gentle stir with a wooden spoon and poured off 1 cup to go in the new batch.
I added the following ingredients into the gallon jar:
3 TBSP organic pumpkin
1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
1/4 tsp ginger (you can put a matchstick-sized piece of fresh peeled ginger in each bottle instead if you prefer)
I GENTLY stirred this up until the pumpkin mixed in.
I filled 6 bottles, leaving a little breathing room at the top of each, and capping tightly. They went into a cooler for 48 hours and then into the fridge. Deliciously different.
Other flavor ideas for your kombucha can be found here: Flavor Your Kombucha

Paleo Cherry Blueberry Cobbler
I hope you are giving fresh cherries the attention that they deserve. I've read that cherries:
1. Ease pain (like from arthritis, gout, and WEIGHT-LIFTING)
2. Are full of vitamins
3. Lower blood pressure
4. Fight cancer
5. help you SLEEP
Here's what I did:
I measured 2 cups of pitted fresh cherries and 2 cups dried wild blueberries and put them into a 8 x 8 square baking dish.
In a bowl, I stirred up the following ingredients with a fork:
1/3 cup local honey (if you use raw honey, you might want to warm it a bit so it will mix better)
2/3 cup unblanched almond flour (but blanched would be fine)
1/4 cup coconut flour
1 cup organic coconut milk from a can
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp sea salt
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 large egg
I put this mixture on top of the fruit.
In a small glass dish I melted 4 TBSP pasture butter (Kerry Gold, from grass fed cows) and then poured it over the top of the cobbler. See?
I put it into a 375 degree oven for 35 minutes. Oh. My. Goodness.

Pumpkin Banana Goji Cookies
I made this batch of healthy treats so quickly I should call them ninja cookies. I imagined the WOD clock – “3…2…1…BEEP”
I put the following ingredients into a large bowl:
2 large ripe bananas
1 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats (we love McCann’s quick oats – order from amazon.com)
1 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut ( the coconut chips are the big chunks – order from nuts.com or tropicaltraditions.com if you can’t find it)
1/2 cup goji berries ( or other dried fruit you like, or dark chocolate chips….)
1/3 cup pumpkin
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp cinnamon
dash of sea salt
I mashed this all up with my hands.
I used a cookie scoop and placed the cookies on a baking sheet rubbed with a little coconut oil.
I baked them in a 350 degree oven for 12 minutes.
“TIME!”
This recipe made 18 chewy Pumpkin Banana Goji Cookies. Sometimes I crave something with a little old-fashioned oats in it. Oats don’t spike your insulin, so now and then, it’s not going to be a big deal. These cookies are so healthy and so fast!
Ger Sasser is fast, too. I love this #sanfranfire from earlier today:
You can watch a repeat of the San Francisco Fire's GRID match against the Phoenix Rise on NBCSports on July 22, 2015 at 6:30 pm.
